Brent Kerr

Commander Brent Kerr joined the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in August 1982. Brent is a lifetime resident of Ventura County and has lived in Camarillo since 1968. Brent has worked several assignments including patrol in 3 of the Sheriff’s contract cities, investigations, special enforcement unit, personnel, internal affairs, academy, community resource unit, and detention services.


As a captain, Brent has worked in all 4 divisions – Patrol Services (Thousand Oaks & West County), Detention Services (Pre-Trial Detention Facility), Support Services (Professional Standards & Academy), and Special Services (Major Crimes).


Brent is currently assigned to the Special Services Division where he oversees a 25 million dollar budget and over 130 employees assigned to the following bureaus/units: Homicide, Sexual Assault, Cold Case, Agriculture, Forgery/Fraud, Technology, DRMO, Narcotics, Pharmaceutical Diversion, Bomb Squad, Criminal Intelligence, Aviation, Search & Rescue, Crime Analysis, Information Systems Bureau, S.W.A.T., and Tactical Negotiations.


Brent has a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and a Masters degree in Emergency Management from California State University, Long Beach.


Though Brent loves his profession and being a public servant, his greatest passion is his family. Brent has been married to his wife, Julie, for 32 years and they have two grown children: Jeremy and Jenna.
