Commander Ron Nelson
Commander Ron Nelson began his career with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in 1987 after earning his Bachelor’s degree from Cal State University Northridge in art and photography. His law enforcement career has included assignments in three custody facilities, five patrol stations, field training officer assignments, special enforcement, gang enforcement, detectives, internal affairs, public information, and administration. Ron has managed two patrol stations, including service as the Chief of Police for the City of Moorpark, and the Sheriff’s Pre-Trial Detention Facility. He has also managed the Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team, which responds to incidents of civil unrest and man-made and natural disasters.
Ron is currently assigned as the Commander of the Todd Road Jail, responsible for the operational oversight of the facility, inmate services, and the divisional training unit.
Ron has serviced his community outside of work through various service organizations such as the Rotary Club of Moorpark, Boy Scouts, and the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce. He currently volunteers as an instructor for a high school automotive repair class through a homeschooling organization, and as a bugler for local veterans’ organizations. Ron and his wife Diana, and their three boys, live in Simi Valley.
