David Tennessen

Chief Deputy David Tennessen is a 31-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. David has held a variety of management positions in the Department since 1991. These assignments have included stints as the manager in several patrol functions, manger of the Sheriff’s Crime Suppression Unit, the Sheriff’s Criminal Justice Training Center, the Sheriff’s Aviation/Search and Rescue Unit, Commander of the Sentenced jail facilities, Camarillo’s Chief of Police for 4 ½ years, Commander in Special Services Division responsible for managing Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Aviation Unit, the Tactical Negotiations Unit and SWAT. He also managed the Sheriff’s Human Resources Bureau. Chief Deputy Tennessen currently manages the Sheriff’s Detention Services Division.


Chief Deputy Tennessen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from Ashford University and is currently in a graduate program at California State University Northridge. David and his wife Valerie reside in Camarillo.
