2005 - 2006 Crime Statistics

  • The total Part I crime rate per 1,000 population for the entire Sheriff’s jurisdiction increased from 16.04 in 2005 to 16.94 in 2006, an increase of 6%.  This was fueled in part by several aggravated gang related assaults and an increase in theft related property crimes.
  • The total Part I violent crime rate per 1,000 increased from 1.68 to 1.82 from 2005 to 2006 (8%).  The category of aggravated assaults increased, while the numbers of Homicides, Rapes, and Robberies decreased.

Many of the crimes that were related to this increase are preventable by the residents of Ventura County.  Sheriff Bob Brooks reminds everyone to lock their car doors and to keep valuables out of sight, especially electronic goods such as cell phones, and laptop computers that are a major target of thieves.
