What is the physical agility test?
The physical agility test consists of five (5) events that are timed and scored separately. These events include:
- Agility Run: This test simulates a short distance foot pursuit and requires frequent changes in direction while running as fast as possible. (Distance: 99 yards)
- Body Drag: This test simulates dragging a 165 pound physically incapacitated person to safety. (Distance: 32 feet).
- Chain link Fence Climb: This test measures your ability to run and scale a six (6) foot chain link fence in as short a time as possible. (Distance: 30 yards)
- Solid Fence Climb: This test measures your ability to run and scale a six (6) foot solid fence in as short a time as possible. (Distance: 30 yards)
- 500 Yard Run: This test simulates a long distance foot pursuit. (Distance: 500 Yards)
Because individual test performance is the best indication of your overall ability to perform the physical demands of the job, scores on the individual tests are combined to arrive at a total test score. Scoring on this basis, as opposed to scoring each individual test on a pass/fail basis, will allow you to compensate for performing less than optimally on one test by performing extremely well on other tests. It is possible to attain a total score of 708 points on the examination. A minimum score of 270 points must be obtained to pass this examination at entry level. Those candidates successful in the selection process will later be required, during academy training, to attain higher scores pursuant to Academy and POST regulations.
