The most common type of graffiti seen in Camarillo today is "tagging" done by individuals or groups to mark territory, as a relief from boredom, to obtain notoriety and fame, or to display "artistic" talent.  The monetary damage caused by taggers in Ventura County is in the millions of dollars.  In an effort to combat the problem, the City of Camarillo created a senior deputy position for the specific purpose of investigating all graffiti crimes.  In addition to making arrests, the senior deputy attempts to reduce graffiti vandalism by conducting probation searches and serving search warrants on known taggers in the area.
