PARENT PROJECT

Parent Project is a 10 week program designed to help parents identify problems and motivate their children to change destructive behavior.  Goals of the program include: reducing family conflict, improving school performance, addressing drug and alcohol use, and improving overall parent / child relationships.  Classes run twice a year.

DIVERSION
Diversion is available to many Camarillo residents under age 18 that have been arrested for minor offenses.  Juveniles are required to participate in a meeting with more serious offenders, write an essay, and perform community service hours.  The juvenile violators sign a contract promising to obey all laws and the rules of their parents for an extended period of time.  If the program is not successfully completed, the arrest information is forwarded to probation for handling.

PYLES CAMP
Pyles Camp is a two week retreat located in the Sequoias.  It is a structured program designed to promote pride and self-confidence in young boys.   This program can be helpful for troubled children, but it is not for delinquents.  Selections are made by the youth officer.

For more information about these or other services and programs offered by the youth officer contact    388-5131.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS
In an effort to ensure the safest possible environment for students, the City of Camarillo has teamed with both the OxnardUnionHighSchool District and the PleasantValleySchool District to provide three full time School Resource Officers at local campuses.  The School Resource Officers work closely with school administrators to provide security, enforce laws, mediate disputes, and educate parents and students about various trends effecting local schools.  CamarilloHigh School and FrontierHigh School each have one deputy permanently assigned to their respective schools during the hours of instruction.  The third deputy provides services to the elementary and middle schools within the jurisdiction of the PleasantValleySchool District.
