On August 18, 2014, at approximately 7:53 p.m., a woman contacted the Camarillo Police Department and reported her husband missing.  The woman told deputies her husband suffers from Alzheimer's.  She stated she and her husband were walking on the bike trail in Camarillo near Upland Road and Flynn Road, when her husband disappeared from her view.  She searched the area but was unable to locate him.  Patrol deputies quickly began to search for the victim.

Patrol deputies were assisted on the call by a Sheriff's K-9 Unit and a bloodhound dog from the Sheriff's Search & Rescue Unit.  Unable to locate the victim quickly, the Sheriff's Communication Center activated the V.C. Alert Notification System.  A phone message was sent to approximately 12,546 homes, cell phones, voice mails, and emails in the area where the victim disappeared.  As a result of that message, two members of the Sheriff's Office Fillmore Search & Rescue Team, who live in Camarillo, received the message and responded to the area to help look for the victim.  The two Fillmore Search & Rescue Team members located the victim walking in the area of Via Pescador and Avenida Acaso.  The Search & Rescue members contacted Sheriff's Communication Center and advised they had located the missing subject.  Deputies went to the location and the man was positively identified as the missing victim.  He was returned to his home and was not injured.
