On August 30th, 2014, the Ojai Police Department held an Avoid DUI / Drivers License checkpoint.  Initially the checkpoint was set up for eastbound traffic on Ojai Avenue at El Paseo. Later in the evening, the checkpoint was moved to northbound Creek Road at Kiowa Court.   In addition to the deputies and officers working the checkpoint, motorcycle officers were assigned to patrol the streets in and around the checkpoints for additional enforcement.


Deputies / officers contacted 476 drivers, conducted 3 DUI investigations and issued 15 citations.  No drivers were found to be impaired and no arrests were made. Twelve of the citations were for drivers license violations, two were for possession of marijuana and 1 was for possession of an open container of alcohol.


This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
