On September 29, 2014, at about 10:00 am, Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of a missing elderly adult in the area of 85 Riverside Drive in Oak View. Mary Adkins, a 99 year old resident of Oak View, walked away from her house earlier in the morning and her whereabouts were unknown. Deputies began searching the area for Mary and any evidence of where she may have gone.

At about 11:30 am, The Ventura County Sheriff Office of Emergency Services issued a Reverse 911 Alert to the residents living in the area. The search effort to locate Mary was then expanded to include the Ventura County Sheriff's Aviation Unit and Search & Rescue Teams. This included the use of a Sheriff's helicopter, K-9 Search Team, and about thirty professional volunteer ground searchers.

Throughout the search effort, the Sheriff's Office received many tips and leads of possible sightings from various outlets including social media.

At approximately 1810 hours, Mary Adkins was located in the fenced front yard of a home in the area of Riverside Drive and Chaparral Road. She was located by one of the Ventura County Sheriff's Volunteer Search & Rescue Team Members. Ms. Adkins was found alive and was treated on scene by AMR Paramedics and transported to Community Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
