The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is sending a contingent of search and rescue (SAR) volunteers to assist the Riverside Sheriff's Department in the continued search for Alphonso Nguyen.

 

On Saturday, April 25, 2015, Nguyen was hiking with friends when he became separated.  Nguyen contacted local authorities and stated he was lost, and that his cell phone was low on battery power.  It is unknown if Nguyen was prepared for any type of extended stay in the wilderness.  

 

Volunteers from the East Valley and Upper Ojai Search and Rescue Teams, will be leaving Ventura County in the early hours to assist the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in locating Nguyen.  Current weather conditions in the search area are mid 70's in the daytime and low 30's in the night. 

 

Search and rescue teams in the State of California are comprised of volunteers under the direction of their local Sheriff's Department.  Their skills and knowledge of the outdoors, including technical rope rescue, make them valuable assists to the counties they serve. 

 

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office reminds all of its residents to be prepared when visiting the back country; this includes filing a hiking plan.  A hiking plan and a list of all essential items suggested to take hiking area available at www.vcsar3.org
