On May 5, 2015 at approximately 11:09 AM, multiple reporting parties called the Sheriff's Communication Center (SCC) reporting a burglary in progress to a residence on the 800 block of Santa Clara Avenue, in the city of Fillmore.  The reporting parties reported a young Hispanic male removed the screen to the victim's residence and entered via the open window.  Shortly after, the victim's arrived to the residence while the burglary suspect was still inside.  The suspect fled the scene upon the victim's arrival.  


Two Sheriff's Sergeants, Fillmore High School's School Resource Officer (SRO), and a Deputy from the Sheriff's Civil Unit who was in the area all responded to the burglary in progress.  With the assistance of the community who called in and supplied the SCC with an excellent description of the suspect, the 17 year old suspect was located down the street in possession of the stolen property.  The juvenile suspect was positively identified by a witness and was arrested for burglary, then lodged into the Ventura County Juvenile Detention Center.


This was a great example of the community working together with the Police in an effort to keep our community safe.  The Ventura County Sheriff's Office and the Fillmore Police Department would like to remind residents to make sure your residence in secured when leaving it, even for a short time.   If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it to the Police Department immediately by calling 911.
