On January 23, 2015, six juveniles were gathered in the Conejo open space, near the Rancho Conejo Playfields.  The juveniles were approached by a male suspect who brandished a firearm at them and demanded their personal property.  The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash, along with electronic items from the victims and fled the scene.

Thousand Oaks Police Major Crimes detectives developed a lead in the investigation which led them to the suspect Deangelo Bynum.  While not a service member, it was learned Bynum was associated with Naval Base Ventura County.  Investigators worked in collaboration with Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and on July 29, 2015, the Thousand Oaks Police Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) located and arrested Deangelo Bynum for 211 PC (2nd Degree Armed Robbery).  Deputies located a weapon in Bynum's possession, which is believed to have been the one used in the armed robbery.
