Unit(s) Responsible:

Sheriff Headquarters Station

The Ventura County Sheriff's Headquarters Station continues sharing valuable, timely information directly with residents using the latest communication services, Nixle and Twitter.

Nixle allows the Sheriff Headquarters Station to create and publish messages to subscribed users instantly via cell phone. Residents can choose which local agencies to follow and the manner in which alerts are received, whether by email, text message, or over the web. Messages may include emergency alerts, area advisories and important community messages. Nixle is free, secure, reliable and easy to use.

Using a smartphone, persons can send a text message to '888777', adding the zip code of the area they wish to follow in the conversation line.  Once the message is sent, Nixle responds with a confirmation.  Vital information developing in that zip code area will now be sent to the smartphone.  Several area zip codes can be added, however only one zip code message should be sent at a time.

Nixle builds on the foundations of other public-to-public communication services, such as Twitter and Facebook, but adds a key component: security. When people receive information from the Sheriff's Office via Nixle, they know it can be trusted.

Residents of Sheriff contract cities in Fillmore, Ojai, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark and surrounding unincorporated areas, can immediately begin receiving pertinent information via text message, email, and web by registering at ''s-Office---Ventura-Station/'.

The Sheriff's Office continues to use 'Twitter' to communicate important information and breaking news stories to those in Ventura County and many others outside the area with an interest in Ventura County.  We encourage you to register with 'Twitter' at You can follow all Sheriff Station Twitter accounts at:
