Detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff's Gang Unit, Thousand Oaks SED, Camarillo SED and Agents with the ATF conducted a search warrant and seized several assault weapons, short barreled rifles, assault weapon and silencer manufacturing components, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.


During the months of June and July 2015, the ATF and the Ventura County Sheriff's Gang Unit initiated an investigation into Nester Tovar. The investigation involved the possession and manufacture of assault weapons and fully automatic weapons. During a search warrant at Tovar's residence, detectives located thousands of live rounds of ammunition, body armor, high capacity ammunition magazines, and components used to manufacture assault weapons and firearm silencers. Ventura County Bomb Team operators were also called to the residence to investigate a suspicious device.  


Detectives received information Tovar had stored a safe containing several assault weapons at a friend's residence in the city of Oxnard. Detectives recovered the safe and located 10 assault rifles, 3 short barreled rifles, and 2 bolt action rifles inside.


Tovar was booked into custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for violations of California Penal Code sections 30600(a) ' Manufacturing assault weapons, 30605(a) ' Possession of assault weapons, 33215 ' Possession of a short barreled rifle, 33410 ' Possession of a silencer, 32310(a) ' Importation of high capacity magazines, and 273.6(a) ' Violation of a domestic relations court order.
