Narrative:

During the first two weeks of February, military gear has been stolen from service members who live in the western portions of Camarillo.  The items, which included uniforms, helmets and other specialized military gear, were stolen from the victims' garages and vehicles.  The crimes occurred during the nighttime hours.  Detectives believe these are crimes of opportunity, and that military personnel are not being targeted.

Ventura County has a special relationship with, and appreciation for the men and women who serve with our armed services and call Ventura County home.  The Camarillo Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying suspects and preventing further victimization of Veterans and Camarillo residents.

Military gear is distinctive and often have very specialized uses. Furthermore, members of the military are diligent about labeling their equipment with name tapes, iron-on labels and permanent marker.  Please pay special attention to people selling military items whose name does not match the names on the gear they are selling.  Please report found military type items to your local law enforcement agencies. Some stolen property was located by an alert citizen in a parking lot near the intersection of Overland Road and West Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo.

Veterans and citizens are reminded to properly secure garages, vehicles and personal property.  In addition, please report ANY suspicious subjects you may see in your neighborhoods, to the Ventura County Sheriff's Dispatch Center at 805-654-9511 or 911.
