On February 3, 2012 at 11:16 PM, a deputy assigned to the Camarillo Police Department initiated a traffic stop and the driver failed to yield in the area of Yolanda and Rowland in the City of Camarillo. The driver eventually stopped his vehicle in the 400 block of Kino Street in the City of Camarillo. As the deputy approached the driver of the vehicle, the driver put his vehicle in reverse and struck the deputy. The moving vehicle caused bodily injury to the deputy and the deputy, fearing for his safety and further injury, fired his duty weapon at the driver (suspect).


The suspect was injured by the deputy's gunfire, but his wounds were deemed to be non-life threatening. The suspect had a female passenger in his vehicle and she was also injured by the gunfire. Her injuries were also deemed to be non-life threatening.


The deputy, the suspect and his female passenger were transported to local hospitals where they received medical treatment.


The investigation is continuing
