On 9-7-16, at approximately 5:40 AM, a Moorpark Patrol Deputy observed an occupied vehicle stopped on Fruitvale Ave. near Broadway Rd. in the unincorporated area of Moorpark.  The deputy stopped to investigate and contacted the driver, Vanessa Gonzalez.  Gonzalez told the deputy her passenger was having a medical emergency.  The deputy went to the passenger side and contacted Dean Aguilar.  The deputy immediately recognized Aguilar as a parolee whom he has had prior contact with.  The deputy requested a backup unit to assist.  Aguilar heard the request for backup and told the deputy, 'I have a gun' and 'I'm going to shoot you.'  The deputy took cover and waited for additional resources to arrive.  The vehicle fled the area and got stuck on a dirt road approximately one mile away from the original contact.  Additional patrol resources arrived to assist.

Aguilar then stepped out of the vehicle with a gun and told the deputies, 'Shoot me.'    Gonzalez grabbed Aguilar and pulled him back into the vehicle.  Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) and a K-9 were deployed and Aguilar was taken into custody.  Aguilar sustained minor dog bite wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he was medically cleared.  A subsequent investigation revealed the handgun was a replica BB gun and Aguilar may have wanted to commit suicide by cop.  A photo of the replica handgun is attached to this News Story.

Aguilar was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for an outstanding felony warrant, criminal threats, brandishing a replica firearm, assault on a police dog, and resisting arrest; bail is set at $60,000.  Gonzalez was arrested for possession of controlled substance, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Gonzalez' bail had been set at $5,000.
