During the month of September, the Sheriff's Gang Unit received information that Bryan Hedrick was in possession of numerous rifles, shotguns, and handguns.  Bryan Hedrick was previously convicted of California Penal Code section 246, shooting at an occupied vehicle where the person in the vehicle sustained a gunshot injury.   In the State of California, persons convicted of a felony are prohibited from possessing / having access to / or control of any type of firearms or ammunition. 


On 9/14/16, the Sheriff's SWAT team assisted by Ventura Police Department SWAT, Simi Valley Police SWAT, Sheriff's Bomb Squad, Sheriff's Tactical Negotiations Unit, and Ventura County Fire Department jointly executed a search warrant at a residence in the 20000 block of South Mountain Road.  The SWAT teams were used to serve the search warrants due to Bryan Hedrick's violent history and his access to high caliber rifles.  During the search, twelve firearms including an AK-47 style assault rifle, over 1000 rounds of ammunition, large capacity magazines, over a pound of marijuana were found inside the location and seized as evidence. 


The Sheriff's Gang Unit obtained information of a second location where Hedrick stored more firearms.  The Sheriff's Gang Unit obtained a search warrant for the second location, located in the 100 block of Encino Avenue, Camarillo.  During that search warrant, another six rifles and additional ammunition were located. Two of the rifles located were semi-automatic assault weapons.


Several days later, Bryan Hedrick was located and arrested by Sheriff's Gang Unit investigators in the San Diego area.  During the arrest, Hedrick was found with 5.2 grams of methamphetamine in his possession.  Hedrick was arrested for the felonious charges of PC 29800 ' Felon in Possession of Firearms, PC 27545 ' Unlawful Transfer of Firearms, .PC 30305 ' Felon in Possession of Ammunition, PC 30605 - Possession of Assault Rifles, PC 32310 ' Large Capacity Magazines, and HS 11359 ' Possession of Marijuana For Sale.   Hedrick was transported back to Ventura County and remains in custody with a bail set in the amount of $500,000.


Any persons that have previously been convicted of a felony, or certain misdemeanors involving violence or domestic violence, are required to surrender their firearms to law enforcement or legally transfer them.  Information about this process can be obtained by contacting the Sheriff's Gang Unit Office at 805-654-2856.
