On July 17, 1996, Deputy Peter J. Aguirre was tragically killed while investigating a domestic disturbance in the Ojai Valley community of Meiners Oaks.  This year marks the 20th anniversary of this incident.  The man responsible for Deputy Aguirre's death is currently on California's death row.


In order to honor Deputy Aguirre's ultimate sacrifice, a highway sign will be erected in his name.  The Ventura County Sheriff's Office would like to invite the public to attend the Highway Sign Dedication Ceremony on October 14, 2016 at the Ojai Police / Sheriff's Station located at 402 S. Ventura Street, in the city of Ojai.  The ceremony will begin at 2:00 pm and should conclude by 3:00 pm.
