Former Camarillo resident Caleb Burrett was arrested on Monday Oct. 3, 2016 after a lengthy investigation surrounding the death of a 3 year old child. 


On Sept. 2, 2014, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office's Major Crimes Bureau initiated an investigation regarding injuries sustained to a child at a residence in the 100 block of Calle Vista in Camarillo.  The child succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Northridge Hospital on Sept. 4, 2014. 


Following a two year investigation, Burrett was arrested in the early morning hours of Oct. 3, 2016 in the mountainous community of Evergreen, Colorado.  Investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau were assisted by investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office with Burrett's arrest and the subsequent service of a search warrant served upon Burrett's residence in Evergreen. 


A Ventura County Superior Court arrest warrant was issued for Burrett for a violation of California Penal Code section 273ab(a) [Child abuse causing great bodily injury or death to a child under the age of 8].  Burrett is currently in custody at the Jefferson County Jail with a bail of 1,000,000.00 pending extradition back to Ventura County, where he will face the above charge filed by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.  The charge carries a punishment of imprisonment in the state prison for 25 years to life.
