Narrative:

 

On 2/24/2017, at approximately 1:30 AM, while patrolling the Oak View area, a patrol deputy observed a male subject walking on North Ventura Avenue near Santa Ana Road.  Due to the time of night and darkness of the road, the deputy contacted the subject to check his well-being.

  

The male subject identified himself as Stephen Kuklenski, a transient from Ventura.  While speaking with the 36 year old, the deputy discovered Kuklenski was armed with a Glock 9mm pistol, as well as displaying symptoms of recent drug use.  The deputy performed a drug evaluation on Kuklenski and arrested him for multiple charges including, HS 11550 (e), Under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm and PC 25400(a)(2), Carrying a concealed firearm.

 

During a search of Kuklenski's backpack incident to arrest, the deputy found multiple gun magazines and ammunition totaling 68 rounds, a modified 12 gauge shotgun with 3 shells, and parts to build an AR15 assault rifle.

 

The deputy also found honey oil (concentrated form of marijuana), Xanax pills, 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and 119 grams of marijuana. There were also multiple bags and containers commonly associated with drug sales.

 

Kuklenski was booked into the jail on 6 felony and misdemeanor charges.

 

On 3/12/2017, patrol deputies were dispatched to the area of Alviria Drive and Moreno Drive reference reports of a suspicious subject, dressed in dark clothing loitering in the area.

 

Deputies contacted Kuklenski walking on Alviria Drive.  Due to Kuklenski's recent arrest for concealed weapons, the deputies conducted a pat-down search and located a semi-automatic handgun and a fixed blade knife concealed on his person.  Deputies also located two handcuff keys and a bag of methamphetamine.  Kuklenski was arrested for multiple charges including PC 21310, Carrying a concealed dirk or dagger and PC 25400(a)(2), Carrying a concealed firearm in a public place.

 

During a search of Kuklenski's backpack incident to arrest, deputies found marijuana, 80 rounds of ammunition, and multiple items associated with drug sales.

 

A drug evaluation was performed on Kuklenski and he was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance while carrying a firearm in a public place.

 

Kuklenski was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail on 4 felony and misdemeanor charges and is still in custody where his bail is currently set at $50,000.

 

Kuklenski was arrested because concerned citizens observed a suspicious subject in the neighborhood and called 911.  The Ventura County Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to report all suspicious activity seen by calling 9-1-1.
