Narrative:

On 4-7-2012, Ventura County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of shots being fired in the unincorporated area of Saticoy.  A witness told police that two males in a vehicle were firing shots at the location.  When deputies arrived, they found spent shell casings and blood in the street. They were unable to locate any victims.  A short time later, gang investigators located the suspect vehicle in the 1500 block of South Saticoy Ave, Ventura.  The vehicle was being driven by 35 year old Guadalupe Ruiz who was uninjured.  Gang investigators found evidence, including blood in the car, which suggested Ruiz was involved in the Saticoy shooting.

While investigators were at both scenes, a 16 year old male was brought into Ventura County Medical Center with a severe head wound.  The male juvenile was evaluated and taken to emergency surgery.  Investigators responded to the hospital and determined that the male juvenile was involved in the shooting.

Ruiz and the 16 year old male are both documented gang members.  Investigators believe that both subjects were armed with handguns when they drove into the community of Saticoy.   While driving on Nardo Street, Ruiz and the juvenile stopped to confront rival gang members.  During the confrontation, the juvenile was struck on the head with an unknown heavy object and knocked unconscious.  Investigators believe that Ruiz fired several rounds at the rival gang members but no one was struck.  Ruiz transported the injured juvenile out of Saticoy where he arranged for transportation to the hospital.

Ruiz was arrested and booked for charges that include Attempted Murder, Child Endangerment, Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling, and Street Terrorism.  He remains in custody on $500,000 bail.  The Juvenile remains hospitalized in critical condition.
