On 7/25/2017, Camarillo patrol deputies arrested (S) Ware for attempted murder that stemmed from a domestic violence incident.


At about 2:15 PM, patrol deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute, which occurred in the City of Camarillo.  During the investigation, deputies learned the victim was battered by Winthrope Ware, to whom the victim has been married for 23 years. Ware left the residence prior to the deputies' arrival, but he was located and arrested a short time later. 


The victim was transported via ambulance to the hospital, where she was evaluated and treated for her injuries.  While at the hospital, the victim was contacted by Camarillo detectives who learned the victim was strangled and threatened by Ware.  Detectives determined the incident rose to the level of attempted murder.    


Ware was booked into custody at the Ventura County Main Jail, for attempted murder and domestic battery.  His bail was set at $500,000. 


Domestic violence is a serious matter.  According to Homicide Trends in the United States, 1980-2008. (Published Nov. 2011), U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Almost one out of five or 16.3% of murder victims in the United States were killed by an intimate partner.  Additionally, women in the United States account for two out of three murder victims killed by an intimate partner.
