Narrative:

The Camarillo Police Department wants to advise the public that we have seen an increase in vehicle related thefts, in 2017.

The Camarillo Police Department has seen a rise in vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles. Vehicle burglaries occur when a suspect breaks into a locked / secure vehicle. Thefts from vehicles occur when a suspect enters an unlocked vehicle to steal items.

The Camarillo Police Department is asking the community to help our Deputies fight crime by doing the following:

1)    Don't leave your car unlocked

2)    Don't leave valuable personal property inside your vehicle or in plain view

3)    Don't leave personal identification inside your vehicle

4)    Park your vehicle in your garage

5)    Do not leave a spare key near or in your vehicle

6)    Never leave your windows open

7)    Park in well-lit, public areas

8)    Install an audible alarm system

A majority of these thefts could be avoided by just locking your vehicle. Thefts can occur in any city or rural area. Please be aware of your surroundings, don't be complacent and report any suspicious activity to the Camarillo Police Department.
