1 in 5 people have a mental illness or addiction: So, what can I do'

Learn Mental Health First Aid!  It is a free, two part, 8 hour certified training to help someone developing a mental health problem or at risk of suicide or harm.  This innovative program offers concrete tools and answers key questions like 'What can I do if someone is in crisis''  'How do I approach someone in distress''   'What do I say''  'How can I help''   'Where can someone find help'' 

 

You will learn:

wAbout common mental health and substance use disorders                              

wWarning signs and symptoms of mental health problems 

wPotential risk factors  

wLocal resources and supports

wA five step action plan:

        Assess for risk of suicide or harm

        Listen Non-judgmentally

        Give reassurance and information

        Encourage appropriate professional help

        Encourage self-help and other support strategies
