On 6/7/2012 the Moorpark Police Department, in conjunction with the Thousand Oaks Police Department and the Simi Valley Police Department, concluded a two-month investigation into Patrick Yarns of Granada Hills. Detectives became aware in April 2012, Patrick Yarns was entering Ventura County businesses in the cities of Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley and passing fictitious checks. The investigation revealed that Yarns, over the past several years, had passed numerous manufactured checks utilizing false account numbers, throughout Southern California. Yarns would buy items for a small dollar amount and then return the items for cash the following day. He did this at the same store, but in a different city. The victims included Kohl's, Home Goods, Trader Joe's, Orchard Supply Hardware and Marshall's among others.  The total loss is believed to be over one hundred thousand dollars.  Yarns was arrested and is currently in custody in Ventura County Jail for 17 counts of burglary with a bail of $250,000.
