On July 7, 2012 the Thousand Oaks Police Department held a DUI / Drivers License checkpoint.  Initially the checkpoint was set up for eastbound  traffic on Avenida De Los Arboles at Avenida De Las Plantas. Later in the evening the checkpoint was moved and set up for westbound traffic on Hillcrest Drive at Lynn Road. In addition to the deputies working the checkpoint, motorcycle deputies were assigned to the streets in and around the checkpoint for additional enforcement.

Deputies contacted 915 drivers, conducted 16 DUI investigations and issued 44 tickets for various vehicle code violations.  Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.  Both of these drivers were approximately twice the legal limit of .08 BAC. One of the DUI drivers entered the checkpoint and nearly crashed into the rear of another car that was stopped in the checkpoint line. Thirteen drivers were issued citations for not having a valid driver's license. Additionally, two drivers were arrested and cited and released for driving with a suspended license from a prior DUI conviction. Six cars were towed / impounded for license violations.

This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
