Narrative:

In the interest of public safety and service, the Camarillo Police Department is now offering free gunlocks to residents of Camarillo. The Camarillo Police Department received these gunlocks free of charge from Project ChildSafe, which is a nationwide firearm safety education program that provides firearm safety kits/gunlocks to communities and law enforcement agencies across the country. Project ChildSafe purchased the gunlocks utilizing funding from a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The Camarillo police department has received 100 of these locks and is ready to distribute them to residents of Camarillo.

The Camarillo Police Department wants to remind all gun owners that gunlocks alone are not nearly enough. Take the following steps to reduce the possibility of injury as the result of a gun accident.

- Never point a firearm at someone
- Always assume the firearm is loaded
- Keep all guns out of children's reach
- Keep firearm in a locking safe even if the weapon is secured by a gun lock
- Unload the firearm when it is not in use
- Read the gunlock instructions to insure proper use
- Store the key to the lock and the gun separately
- Store the key in a location inaccessible to unauthorized people, particularly children

The locks are available for pick up Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Camarillo Police Station, 3701 East Las Posas Road.
