Nature of Incident:

Sheriff's Office Announces Free App for Android Smart Phones

Dec. 21, 2012

Unit Responsible:

Ventura County Sheriff's Office

Ventura County IT Services

The recent introduction of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office's iPhone App has been a success, but it left out those who have smart phones that use Android operating systems.  In order to reach that market segment, a free Android App has been created and is available to the public.

The App can be downloaded from 'Google Play' by searching one of the following key words: VCSO or Ventura Sheriff.

The App is nearly identical to the iPhone application, and allows users to access crime maps showing the locations of various offenses, locate information about inmates currently in custody, read press releases, and learn about current patrol events.  In addition, there is information about the history of the Sheriff's Office and a directory of phone numbers and locations of Sheriff's substations.

The App also features a link to Ventura County Crime Stoppers, so the public can be aware of those people in the community who are wanted on outstanding warrants.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing the public with convenient access to our services.  With the number of smart phones steadily increasing, giving people an easy way to learn about what we are doing in the community is important.
