On February 26th, 2013 at approximately 2:04 in the afternoon, deputies from the Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau responded to a non-injury traffic collision on Moorpark Road north of Columbia Avenue.

The investigation revealed that northbound traffic on Moorpark Road was backed up due to a red traffic light at Avenida De Las Flores.  Claudio Cardenas was stopped in the northbound #1 lane of Moorpark Road due to the traffic. Female Juvenile #2 and #3 stopped behind Cardenas.  Female Juvenile #1 briefly looked away from the road in front of her and when she looked back was unable to stop before colliding into rear of Female Juvenile #2's car.  This caused a chain reaction and Juvenile #2's car collided with Juvenile #3's car and then Juvenile #3's car collided with Cardenas' car.  Due to the number of vehicles involved the northbound #1 lane of Moorpark Road was closed for approximately 1 hour.

The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers to continuously scan the roadway ahead of where they are going for potential hazards like quickly stopping traffic of congestion.  Additionally, all drivers should maintain a safe distance and speed in relation to traffic in front of them.

The use of a cell phone or texting while driving was not a contributing factor to this collision.
