On March16th 2013, the Thousand Oaks Police Department held a DUI / Drivers License checkpoint. Initially, the checkpoint was set up for westbound traffic on
Borchard Road eastof Wendy Drive. Later in the evening the checkpoint was moved and set up for westbound traffic on Avenida De Los Arboles east of Kensington Avenue. In addition to the deputies working the checkpoint, motorcycle deputies were assigned to the streets in and around the checkpoint for additional enforcement.
Overall deputies contacted 448 drivers, conducted thirteen DUI investigations and issued twelve citations for various vehicle code violations. Four drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. All of the drivers who were arrested had blood alcohol concentrations above the legal limit of .08%. Four of the other drivers evaluated were found to be just below the legal limit. Three of the drivers had a BAC of .07% and one driver had a BAC of .05%. Although these drivers weren't arrested they were not allowed to drive away from the checkpoint. Deputies arranged to have them driven home by a responsible party.
The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers to plan ahead when they go out and drink alcohol. Designate a responsible person to stay sober and do the driving. Another option is to take advantage of public transportation of use a local taxi service.
This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
