On May 25h, 2013 the Thousand Oaks Police Department held a DUI / Drivers License checkpoint.  The checkpoint was set up for westbound traffic on Hillcrest Drive west of Lynn Road. In addition to the deputies working the checkpoint, motorcycle deputies were assigned to the streets in and around the checkpoint for additional enforcement.


Deputies contacted 349 drivers, conducted 8 DUI investigations, issued 31 citations, made 3 arrests and towed 6 cars.  Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and one driver was arrested for driving when his license was suspended for a prior DUI conviction. One of the drivers arrested for DUI had a blood alcohol concentration three times the legal limit and he narrowly mssed crashing into several of the police cars parked at the checkpoint.  Twenty five (25) of the 31 citations issued were for drivers driving without a license. The other 6 citations were for various traffic violations.


This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
