On July 6th 2013, the Thousand Oaks Police Department held a DUI / Drivers License checkpoint.  Initially the checkpoint was set up for westbound traffic on Hillcrest Drive west of Lynn Road. Later in the evening, the checkpoint was moved and set up for westbound traffic on Avenida De Los Arboles at Kensington. In addition to the deputies working the checkpoint, motorcycle deputies were assigned to the streets in and around the checkpoint for additional enforcement.


Deputies contacted 264 drivers, conducted 8 DUI investigations, issued 17 citations, made 5 arrests and towed 4 cars.  Three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and one driver was arrested for driving when his license was suspended for a prior DUI conviction. Additionally, another driver was arrested for two outstanding arrest warrants. Eleven (11) of the 17 citations issued were for drivers driving without a license. The other 6 citations were for various traffic violations.


This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
