On July 12th at about 5:40 p.m., patrol deputies responded to a report of a suspicious subject in a vehicle near the Girl Scout Camp off Sulphur Mountain Rd. in Oak View.  Responding deputies located the vehicle in the area, driven by a male adult, and a brief vehicle pursuit ensued.   The pursuit terminated on Old Creek Rd. and an officer involved shooting occurred.  The suspect was injured and pronounced deceased at the scene.


During the pursuit , the suspect stopped at the end of Old Creek Rd., exited his vehicle, and pointed a handgun at two deputies.  The deputies fired their handguns at the suspect, causing injuries. The Ventura County Fire Department and AMR Ambulance responded to the scene and treated the suspect.  However, the suspect succumbed  to injuries sustained from gunshot wounds.


The involved deputies were not injured.  Sheriff's Major Crimes detectives are continuing the investigation.  The identity of the suspect has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Medical Examiner's Office.
