Narrative:

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office Headquarters Patrol Station will utilize a social media communications service that will allow important, valuable community information to be sent directly to residents it serves.

Nixle, a messaging system that is utilized solely by public safety agencies, will allow the Headquarters Station to create and publish messages to residents (who subscribe) instantly via cell phone, text message and/or email.  Messages include emergency alerts, advisories and important community messages.  Examples of information sent out to residents would be media releases, significant traffic problems/road closures, and major disaster event updates (wildfires, floods, etc).

In Ventura County, residents can choose which local agencies they want to follow based on the community they live in.  Subscribers can also choose the way in which alerts are received: by email or text message. This service is free, secure, reliable and easy to use.  Nixle builds on the foundations of other popular social media services, such as Twitter and Facebook.  When citizens receive information from our agency/patrol station via Nixle, they know it is a public safety agency and the information can be trusted.

Community residents can immediately begin receiving pertinent information from Nixle via text message and email, or following us on our twitter account:
