This afternoon at approximately 1:00 pm, a wrong way driver, driving a stolen vehicle (from the Camarillo area) sideswiped a vehicle traveling northbound on Spring Road approaching Princeton Avenue.  Deputies from the Moorpark Police Department witnessed the accident and after the vehicle failed to stop for the accident initiated a pursuit.

The driver/suspect continued driving southbound in the northbound lanes on Spring Road for a short distance while being pursued by deputies.  The suspect vehicle continued southbound on Spring Road through the intersection at Los Angeles Avenue at a high rate of speed.  The suspect vehicle continued southbound where it struck a second vehicle and occupants traveling westbound in the intersection of Spring Road and Tierra Rejada Road.  This collision caused the second vehicle to leave the westbound lanes, flipping over several times until the vehicle came to rest in the on-coming eastbound lanes of Tierra Rejada.  At the same time the vehicle nearly missed a motorcyclist stopped in the left hand turn pocket.  Both vehicles were incapacitated.

The suspect then attempted to evade pursuing deputies by running into a field south of Tierra Rejada Road where soon after she was taken into custody.  The suspect, Jennifer Hayward was arrested for multiple charges including: stealing a motor vehicle, felony evading, driving under the influence (DUI) and felony hit & run.  The intersection of Tierra Rejada and Spring Road was closed for approximately three (3) hours while an investigation was conducted.

The suspect suffered unknown injuries and was hospitalized at Los Robles Hospital.  The driver of the vehicle struck in the intersection suffered non-life threatening injuries.  No one else was injured in the incident.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Moorpark Police Department at (805) 532-2717.  The Moorpark Police Department would again like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to make sure that you use your seatbelts and child safety restraints.
