On December 14, 2013, the Thousand Oaks Police Department held a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) / Drivers License checkpoint. The checkpoint was initially set up for westbound traffic on Hillcrest Drive, west of Lynn Road. Later in the evening the checkpoint was moved to westbound Avenida De Los Arboles, west of Westlake Boulevard. In addition to the deputies working the checkpoint, motorcycle deputies were assigned to the streets in and around the checkpoint for additional enforcement.
Deputies contacted 358 drivers, conducted 8 DUI investigations, issued 21 citations, made 4 arrests and towed 5 cars. Four (4) drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Fifteen (15) of the 21 citations issued were for drivers driving without a license. The other 6 citations were for various traffic violations. All four of the DUI arrests were for DUI alcohol, not DUI drugs. The blood alcohol concentrations ranged between .10 and .21.
This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
