On February 11, 2014, at about 10:15 p.m., deputies were patrolling the area of Floral Drive in the unincorporated area of Ventura.  Deputies spotted a subject, later identified as Arturo Baranda, inside of a vehicle.  They attempted to speak with Baranda regarding recent residential burglaries in the area. 


As deputies approached the vehicle, Baranda started the vehicle and accelerated towards one of the deputies.  The deputy was able to move out of the way of the vehicle and avoid any serious injuries. 


Deputies pursued Baranda and he was eventually located at a residence in the 5200 blk of Floral Drive.  Baranda was found to be in possession of marijuana and on active probation. 


Baranda was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer with bail being set at $105,000.
