During the evening hours of Wednesday, March 26th, the Ventura County Sheriff's Pre-Trial Detention Facility (PTDF) public reception desk received multiple phone calls from a female caller demanding to speak to her boyfriend, who was in custody. The female caller, who was later identified as Krystal Lovas, stated during two separate phone calls that she had individuals outside the PTDF facility ready to blow up the building if her demands were not met.
In response to the threats, the entire jail facility was placed on lockdown and numerous deputies responded to search the perimeter for suspicious devices and/or persons. Multiple patrol resources were also tasked with checking locations related to Lovas.
The PTDF Classification Unit, in conjunction with the Sheriff's Gang Unit, investigated the incident. Lovas was located and taken into custody at a residence in the 4300 block of Terrace Avenue in the city of Oxnard several hours after the threats.
Lovas was arrested and booked on one felony count of P.C. 148.1(a)- False report of a bomb. Her bail was set at $40,000.
At the time of this incident, there were close to 1,000 individuals, both staff and inmates, located inside the PTDF. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office takes any threats towards the safety and well-being of jail staff and inmates seriously. The Sheriff's Office is committed to investigating each incident and bringing those responsible to justice.
