On May 15, 2014 Joel Ellen (age 25) of Westlake was arrested after committing several vehicle burglaries in the Thousand Oaks area as well as possessing stolen property.


Throughout the early afternoon on May 15, 2014, several citizens reported seeing a male subject breaking into cars in various areas around Thousand Oaks Blvd. Each of the callers to Sheriff's Dispatch provided a consistent description of the subject. Deputies were able to locate a male subject running in the 2500 block of Thousand Oaks Blvd matching that description given. During the detention of the subject, it was determined the subject was in fact the suspect who was seen breaking into numerous cars earlier.  Deputies also determined the suspect had just committed another burglary nearby before being detained.


The suspect, who was identified as Joel Ellen, was subsequently linked to several felony theft crimes that occurred throughout the week in Thousand Oaks and in the Los Angeles County area.  


Ellen was booked in the Ventura County Pre-Trail Detention Facility and his bail was set at $15,000.
