On May 28, 2014, at approximately 8:10 p.m., a female jogger was in the area of Santa Rosa Road and Upland Road in the city of Camarillo and reported she was knocked to the ground and sexually assaulted by an unknown male suspect.


The Ventura County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Bureau ' Sexual Assault Unit - spent numerous hours investigating this incident.  During the investigation, several discrepancies in the victim's statement surfaced.  Investigators contacted the victim again and she admitted she fabricated the story.  The case will be submitted to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office for review and possible charges filed for filing a false police report.


Even though a crime did not occur, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office encourages joggers/walkers to use routes in well-lit surroundings and jog/walk with a partner.  Changing jogging/walking routes is also recommended.
