April 26, 2008

GANG ARREST IN FILLMORE: On April 26, 2008, the Fillmore Police Department and deputies from the Gang Unit responded to a report of a fight in the front parking lot of “Llamas Market”.  Investigation revealed that it was not a fight but a robbery of two customers that had just left the market.  The suspects battered the victims and stole approximately forty-five dollars worth of merchandise from the victims.  The suspects fled the area prior to the deputies’ arrival.

Camarillo Burglary: On April 18, 2008, at about 1:45 p.m., Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the area the 2000 block of Via Montecito.  Upon Sr. Deputy Scott Norris’ arrival, he located the vehicle at which time the four occupants fled on foot.

Thousand Oaks Attempt Robbery / ADW: On 4-15-08, two brothers, 22 and 24 years old were walking in the rear parking lot of the Warwick Apartments when they were confronted by the suspects, who demanded the contents of their pockets, and then physically assaulted them.  Subsequent investigation by the Thousand Oaks Police Department Special Enforcement / Gang Unit and Ventura County Sheriff’s Department East County Major Crimes Unit led to the arrest of Miguel Mendez later that evening at the Warwick Apartments.
 

April 15, 2008 Deputy Performs Heimlich Maneuver: Deputy Monty Pulido, a Ventura County Sheriff's Department Bailiff was on his scheduled lunch break at the Hall of Justice Cafeteria with his wife, when he noticed an adult male subject (identity withheld) in distress.
April 14, 2008

Beginning on March 31, 2008, the Southern California High Tech Task Force, a partnership of local law enforcement agencies to include the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, responded to an investigation of child pornography at the City of Camarillo Public Library.

290 (Sex Registrants) SWEEP: On April 26, 2007, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department conducted its third 290 PC Compliance Sweep.  Section 290 of the California Penal Code requires persons convicted of specified Sexual Assault cases to register with the agency where they reside.  The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting these sweeps randomly throughout the county.

HEAD-ON TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN CAMARILLO: Camarillo deputies responded to an injury traffic collision, between two vehicles, on the Central Avenue overpass at US Highway 101. The two vehicles were traveling in opposing directions when the driver of a sedan crossed over the center lane and struck a small Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) head-on.

April 26, 2007 S.A.F.E. TASK FORCE: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Departments, announces the creation of a Tri-county task force focusing on registered sex offenders. The task force will consist of Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies, working with deputies from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, in a combined effort to increase the compliance rate of registered sex offenders.
April 25, 2007 Stolen Property Arrest: On 04/25/07, a Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling the areas of Hollywood Beach and Silverstrand Beach when he conducted a traffic stop on Cossel’s vehicle.  The Deputy’s investigation led to the discovery of a large amount of stolen property in Cossel and Rivera’s possession.  In addition to the stolen property charges, both subjects were arrested for drug and parole related violations
   
April 28, 2006 Attempt Homicide Arrests - Fillmore: On 4/28/06 at about 7:15 AM, detectives with the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit served search warrants at three residences in the City of Fillmore and one residence in the City of Bakersfield. The search warrant operation was part of an ongoing investigation of the shooting that had occurred on April 16, 2006 , in the city of Fillmore.
April 28, 2006 Bear Captured: On April 28, 2006, at approximately 2230 hours, Sheriff Dispatch received a call of a bear sighting in the area of 1663 Mendocino Lane, Thousand Oaks. Deputies who were on an unrelated call in the area of Avenida De La Plata, spotted the bear. Deputies began tracking the bear while Fish and Game was notified. With the assistance of CHP and the Sheriff’s Helicopter, Deputies maintained a visual on the bear as it moved very quickly throughout the area.

Bear In Thousand Oaks: On 4/27/06, at 8:32 AM, Thousand Oaks area deputies responded to a call of a bear citing on Thousand Oaks Blvd. Near Via Merida in the City of Thousand Oaks. Deputies, with the help of the Sheriff’s helicopter unit, spotted the bear on a hillside, just north of Westlake High School. Additional deputies, Conejo Valley Park Rangers, and Animal Control Officers from both Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, responded to assist in capturing the bear.

April 19, 2006 Camarillo 211: On April 19 th 2006 at approximately 1046 hours, (S) Rodolfo Marmolejo entered the El Centro Market in Camarillo and demanded money from the store clerk. Marmolejo then threatened to harm the clerk if he did not comply with his demands.
April 16, 2006 Rescue of Two Hikers: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department rescue helicopter, Air Squad 8, was dispatched to Los Angeles County for mutual aid to assist in the search for two missing hikers. Two hikers had left at an unknown time to hike on the Sweetwater Mesa trail.
April 16, 2006 Rescue of Lost Hiker: On the date and time listed, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Rescue Helicopter, Air Squad 8, was dispatched to a call of a lost hiker stranded on a cliff.
April 14, 2006 Rescue of Mountain Biker: On the listed date and time, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Rescue Helicopter, Air Squad 8, was dispatched to Santa Barbara County on a call of a missing/overdue mountain biker. Information received was that a mountain biker had left the trailhead of Romero Canyon around 1700 hrs for a short ride.

Narcotics Arrest: Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit, in conjunction with assistance from officers from the Ventura Police Department Street Crimes Unit, ended a several week investigation with the arrest of Rogelio Lopez and the service of a search warrant at his residence located in the City of Ventura .

April 13, 2006 Deputy Hughs Chosen Officer of Year: The Camarillo Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department are proud to announce Deputy Bea Hughes has been chosen as the Camarillo Kiwanis Club officer of the year.
April 5, 2006 Camarillo Vehicle Thefts: Although Camarillo is a safe place to live and work, it is not immune to crime. Recently, Camarillo residents have experienced several thefts from vehicles at a wide variety of locations throughout the city.
April 4, 2006 Lockwood Valley Rescue: On 4/4/06, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Aviation Search and Rescue Unit was dispatched by both the Ventura County Fire Dept and the Sheriff’s Dept to a swift water rescue. There was reportedly a person trapped in a vehicle, which was stuck in the Lockwood Valley creek near the Reyes crossing.
