December 28, 2006 JAIL DRUG BUST: On December 27, 2006 at about 9:50 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Pre-Trial Detention facility were conducting a routine search of the facility when they discovered seven female inmates who were all under the influence of methamphetamine.
December 26, 2006 CHRIS GODFREY NAMED NEW CHIEF DEPUTY: Sheriff Bob Brooks is pleased to announce that he will appoint Commander Chris Godfrey to the rank of Chief Deputy upon the retirement of Chief Dante Honorico in mid February, 2007. Chris is a 28-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and current Commander in charge of the Professional Standards Bureau. In that capacity, he oversees the Internal Affairs unit, the Regional Training Center including the Basic Academy, and the Audits Unit. His first assignment will be Chief of Support Services with additional oversight of Human Resources, Crime Analysis, Records, Budget, as well as Professional Standards.
December 22, 2006 FILLMORE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department / Fillmore Police Department, along with local volunteers combined their efforts to brighten the Christmas spirit in the Fillmore community on Thursday night. The Fillmore Police Storefront hosted its 10th annual “Visit with Santa” event.  The volunteers for this event included local citizens and businesses, which donated toys and food to feed the less fortunate families of Fillmore and the Santa Clara Valley.  In all, there were nearly 297 families that visited with Santa and received a photo, a Christmas meal, and a toy for every child.
December 21, 2006 VEHICLE THEFTS ON RISE IN THOUSAND OAKS: Thousand Oaks residents have fallen victim to burglaries and thefts from their vehicles at an unusually high rate recently. Deputies have documented more than 70 vehicle-related thefts during the past three weeks alone. This trend is disturbing to investigators for several reasons. The vast majority of the cases involve vehicles that are parked with the doors unlocked and with valuable property left in plain view. In some areas that have been targeted by suspects, several vehicles have been stolen that had the keys left in them and the doors left unlocked.

ARREST OF PECCI: A lengthy investigation resulted in the arrest last week of a Thousand Oaks man, who coerced sexual acts from immigrants he hired to perform work at his residence. The investigation revealed that George Pecci, 78, hired an Hispanic woman to clean his house. While she was cleaning the house, Pecci approached her and demanded that she orally copulate him. Pecci told the woman that if she did not satisfy his demands, he would have her deported.

In addition to the charges currently pending against Pecci, investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who has been hired by Pecci and may have been a victim of this type of assault. Anyone with information about Pecci’s activities is asked to contact Detective Luis Alvarez at (805)494-8229.

SANTA ROSA BURGLARY: On Tuesday, December 20, 2006, the property caretaker saw the above four suspects running from a residence that had recently been burglarized.  The suspects fled, using a vehicle that was parked in the orchard near the house.  The caretaker chased the suspect vehicle eastbound on Santa Rosa Rd. to Penelope Place and onto to Charisma Court.  The vehicle stopped at the west end of Charisma Court and the four suspects fled on foot.

MOORPARK BURGLARY / CHILD ANNOY ARREST: On December 18, 2006, at 6:43 AM, Moorpark Patrol Deputies responded to a call of an illegal entry in progress at a residence in the 12400 block of Denali Court.  The caller, a 15-year-old female juvenile reported that a male adult had entered her residence and walked in on her while she was in the shower.  The male suspect had left the residence prior to the deputies’ arrival. 

 

December 18, 2006 MORE ARRESTS IN CAMARILLO HOMICIDE: Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives have arrested the third principal suspect in the homicide of John Marmo on December 1, 2006.  Matthew Gerald Toerner, who was named as a suspect in the case last week, was transferred back from his Navy deployment in Okinawa on Sunday, December 17th.

AVOID THE 14: As a reminder, on December 15, 2006 the Ventura County Sheriff’s Fillmore Station will be hosting the first of a Multi-Agency DUI Check Point called “Avoid the 14.”  “Avoid the 14” represents the 14 law enforcement agenies involved in a grant that the Oxnard Police Department obtained through the Office of Traffic Safety.  The grant calls for Multi-Agency Cooperation on DUI Check Points with the intention of increasing DUI awareness during the holiday season, by focusing resources to deter drivers who drive while intoxicated. 

December 8, 2006 FOUND BODY: On December 8, 2006, a witness was walking along the shoreline at Hollywood beach when he discovered partial human remains floating in the surf.  Sheriff’s patrol deputies from the Headquarters station responded to the beach, along with Harbor Patrol Officers who pulled the victim from the water.
Decenber 7, 2006 MOORPARK GANG ROBBERY ARREST: Detectives assigned to the East County Major Crimes Unit have announced the arrest of four suspects who had attacked Enrique Zambrano as he was visiting a friend in the City of Moorpark during the early morning hours on December 7, 2006.  The suspects encountered Zambrano as he exited his car in an apartment complex in the 300 block of Moorpark Avenue.

December 7, 2006 ARRESTS MADE IN CAMARILLO HOMICIDE: Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of John Marmo Jr. on Friday, December 1, 2006.  The arrests were made without incident on the evening of December 5th and both suspects were booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on charges of murder.
December 6, 2006 STRANDED BOATERS: On Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at about 1:25 PM, a distressed boater called 911 to report he was in his boat and it was sinking in the area of Chismahoo Bay at Lake Casitas.  Units were sent code-3 and the Sheriff’s Air Unit also responded.
December 6, 2006 LOTTERY SCAM: The Camarillo Police Department has received reports of a lottery scam operating in our area.  Residents have been receiving letters in the mail informing them they have won a large sum of money in an international lottery program.

December 1, 2006 CAMARILLO HOMICIDE VICTIM IDENTIFIED: The victim from this morning’s homicide that occurred in the 1200 block of Mission Verde Drive is identified as John Marmo, 27 years old, of Camarillo.
December 1, 2006 CAMARILLO HOMICIDE: On December 1, 2006, at about 6:00 AM, Camarillo Patrol Deputies responded to a call of shots fired/man down, in front of a residence in the 1200 block of Mission Verde Drive.

Child Molestation Arrest: Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau obtained an arrest warrant for suspect Jack Sobonya for five (5) counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

Sheriff's Department Asks Public to Help Identify Found Person - "Tina Marie" was found wandering around the Von's Supermarket in Newbury Park on December 15th. She is unable to tell investigators where she lives or with whom she lives. She appears to be developmentally disabled.

Arrest Made in Newbury Park Stabbing - A 17 year-old male has been arrested and charged for the December 1, 2004 stabbing of a Newbury Park man.
December 5, 2004 Newbury Park Homicide Update - Man identified as Larry Phifer. He died from blunt force trauma to the head and multiple stab wounds.
December 4, 2004 Newbury Park Homicide - Man found dead of apparent homicide.
