KIDNAPPING IN NEWBURY PARK: On Saturday, January 26, 2008, the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to a report of an 11 year old female kidnapped near her residence in the Newbury Park area of the City of Thousand Oaks. The victim was forced into a vehicle by a male suspect and driven away. After struggling with the suspect, the victim was able to free herself and exit the vehicle while still in the neighborhood. The victim ran directly to her house and immediately notified her parents. Patrol deputies and investigators are continuing the search for the suspect and vehicle.

The National Weather Service is predicting a major rain event for Ventura County over the weekend with the heaviest rain expected Saturday night and Sunday. The Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) is monitoring storm weather conditions and preparing a staffing plan for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) should the need arise. Additionally, Watershed Protection District, Ventura County Fire, Animal Regulation and American Red Cross are also in pre-storm preparations and are coordinating with Sheriff’s OES.

AVARY ARREST: Ojai area deputies responded to an injury traffic collision in front of Ojai Lumber, located at 1900 East Ojai Avenue, in Ojai. Deputies began an investigation and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. Roger Avary was arrested for felony D.U.I and booked into Ventura County Jail.

SEXUAL MOLESTATION ARREST: Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives have announced the arrest of Marc Charpentier, who is alleged to have committed lewd sexual acts on three children who were under the age of 14 years old. The children were known to Charpentier at the time of the crimes, which occurred between May and September 2006.

CAMARILLO CITIZEN'S ACADEMY: On February 27, 2007, the Camarillo Police Department will begin its sixteenth citizen’s academy program. It’s a twelve-week course designed to give citizens an overview of the police department’s function and operational procedures.

EMERGENCY PLANE LANDING IN MOORPARK: At about 1157 hours, Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Moorpark Station responded to a report of a plane down in the area of Moorpark Road outside the city of Moorpark. Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed that a single engine plane had landed in a field east of Moorpark Road.

PROBATION SWEEP: On 1/26/2007, at about 7:00 am, Deputies from the Camarillo Police Department Special Enforcement Detail conducted probation and parole searches at various locations within the cities of Camarillo and Oxnard. Officers from the Thousand Oaks Police Department, Moorpark Police Department, Fillmore Police Department, Oxnard Police Department, Santa Paula Police Department and Ventura County Probation Department assisted with the operation.

NYELAND ACRES SHOOTING: On January 23, 2007 at about 3:39 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to multiple 911 calls in reference to gunshots being fired in the 3500 block of Nyeland Avenue, an unincorporated residential neighborhood north of Oxnard.

TRAIN vs. TRUCK IN MOORPARK: On January 22, 2007, at about 3:50 PM, the driver of a pickup truck turned from west-bound Poindexter Avenue, to a north-bound direction onto a private driveway that crossed the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. As the vehicle was crossing the tracks, an east-bound Amtrak train struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, sending the vehicle several hundred feet and into a nearby drainage ditch.

SUSPICIOUS SUBJECTS: On Saturday, January 20 2007, two white males, driving an older white van approached two thirteen-year-old boys that had just left Camarillo Heights School. The two men in the van asked the two young boys if they wanted any candy. After being told “no” by the boys the men told them they had candy in the back of the van. They then asked the boys if they wanted to make a movie.

On Saturday, December 30, 2006, Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling in the area of Pacific Coast Highway near Mugu Rock when they encountered two subjects in a parked vehicle. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Stephen Ridley, 33, of Beverly Hills, for engaging in illegal sexual acts with a juvenile.

Man arrested for Moorpark homicide. Ricardo Barraza was arrested today for the death of Ismael Hernandez of Thousand Oaks. Mr. Hernandez died for injuries sustained during a confrontation on January 22, 2005 at La Calenda Panaderia in Moorpark.
