FILLMORE SPANISH CITIZEN'S ACADEMY GRADUATION: It is with great pride and honor that the Fillmore Police Department announces the graduation of Fillmore Spanish Citizen’s Academy Class 06-02. This will be the first Spanish Citizen’s Academy to graduate since 1999 from the Fillmore Program.

ARREST OF SEXUAL PREDATOR: Sheriff’s Detectives have located and arrested Alberto Velasco in connection with a residential burglary and attempted sexual assault of a Camarillo woman at knife point on November 21, 2006. Following up on information gained during the investigation, Detectives located Mr. Velasco inside a truck stop Café in the 1100 block of Mountain View Avenue in an unincorporated neighborhood near Oxnard. Velasco was apprehended without incident and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

Sexual Assault: On Tuesday, November 21, 2006, a female victim was sleeping inside her home in the 3400 block of Landen Street, Camarillo, when Mr. Alberto Velasco came into her home armed with a knife. Mr. Velasco held the victim at knifepoint while he moved the victim from one room to another to commit a sexual assault. During the encounter, the victim managed to slip away and ran outside and screamed for help. Mr. Velasco left the residence, running south on Dewayne Avenue.
Mr. Velasco works as a handyman and was familiar with the victim after performing handyman duties in the home. He drives a white older panel van, possibly full size, unknown make. He is described as a Hispanic male, 33 years old, 5’5” tall, 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
This information is being released for the safety of the public. Detectives are attempting to locate Mr. Velasco to arrest him for the crimes of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and kidnapping. Anyone with information about Mr. Velasco’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact detectives at (805) 477-7000.

Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested: On Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at about 3:10 PM, Detectives assigned to the East County Major Crimes Unit arrested Richard Conant in connection with two bank robberies that had occurred in the City of Thousand Oaks in recent weeks. Detectives have worked tirelessly since the bank robberies began, in an effort to identify the robber and to take him into custody.

Fillmore Graffiti Arrest: On 11/18/2006 at approximately 1:00 p.m. officers from the Fillmore Police Station arrested two male juveniles, both 17 years old, for various vandalisms involving graffiti in the areas of “B” Street and Fourth Street. The suspects had spray-painted graffiti on a number of fences in the area as well as a wall at “Llamas” Market.

Deputy Involved Shooting Update: The detective who was involved in the shooting in Thousand Oaks on November 14, 2006, is identified as Senior Deputy Shane Matthews.

Deputy Involved Shooting Suspect Identified : The suspect who died as a result of the deputy involved shooting in Thousand Oaks has been identified as Adrian Canley of Santa Paula. The following is a synopsis of the as yet preliminary investigation into the incident.

Deputy Involved Shooting: On Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at about 6:20 PM, a Sheriff’s Deputy was working in the 2200 block of Los Feliz Drive in the City of Thousand Oaks when he was confronted by a male subject. The confrontation led to the deputy discharging his handgun at the suspect, who was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment by ambulance. The suspect died while at the hospital. The deputy was not injured.

Burglary Arrest: On 11/13/06, VenturaCounty Senior Deputy Sheriff R. Hamilton took a report of a burglary at a construction site in El Rio. The company that was burglarized maintained a surveillance camera system, which Sr. Dep. Hamilton viewed as evidence. The surveillance system recorded the suspect committing the crime.

Bear In Fillmore: On 11/13/2006, at about 0600 hrs. units from the Fillmore Police Station responded to a call of a bear in the residential area of Arrasmith and “C” Street. Deputies arrived and located the bear in the culdesac of Arrasmith and Third Street.

Deputy Keller Honored: Riding horses has been a passion for Jodi Keller since she was eight years old. She brought that passion with her to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department when she became a deputy in 1981. Keller has been an active member of the Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Unit since 1982.

Ocean Rescue: Randal Alcorn was a crewman on the 33’ sailing boat “Casio Pia” participating in a race that had started at “Two Harbors” in the City of Ventura. The race had started at 11:00 am and required the sailboats to sail to Platform “Gilda” and then return to Ventura.

Methamphetamine Lab: Narcotics detectives from the VCAT taskforce concluded a month long investigation that led to the discovery of two inactive clandestine labs, along with chemicals and equipment used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine and the seizure of over ten pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

Parole Searches: Early this morning, members of the Fillmore Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Thousand Oaks Police Department, Moorpark Police Department, Camarillo Police Department, Ojai Police Department, Sheriff’s K-9 and Tactical Response Team, Ventura County Probation Department, Ventura Police Department, Oxnard Police Department, Port Hueneme Police Department and Simi Valley Police Department conducted probation and parole searches of 44 residences of persons who reside in and around the communities of Fillmore and Piru. In total, over 104 law enforcement personnel took part in this joint operation.

Sexual Assualt During Massage: On 11/07/06 Camarillo Detectives received a report from a woman that she was sexually assaulted during a massage. She identified the suspect as Peuyoko Perez a licensed massage therapist. Detectives from the Camarillo Police Department along with investigators from the Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau investigated the incident.

El Rio Shooting: On Monday, November 6, 2006, at 9:54 AM, The Sheriff’s Department received several 9-1-1 calls in reference to gunshots being fired in the 1000 block of Will Avenue.

El Rio Shooting Update: The victim in yesterday’s shooting incident in El Rio is identified as Eloy Quesada, of Bakersfield. Mr. Quesada was taken to a local hospital where he received treatment for a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Narcotics Arrest at Centerpoint Mall: Sheriff’s narcotic detectives ended a several month investigation with the arrests of two suspects for engaging in a conspiracy to sell cocaine. The investigation began after detectives received information that Federico Alamilla was selling cocaine while working at an Oxnard Mexican restaurant located inside the Centerpoint Mall known as “El Nopalito."

Sexual Assualt Arrest: On November 2, 2006, Sexual Assault investigators from the Thousand Oaks Police Department arrested Robert Callahan after attempting to lure a 13 year-old female for purposes of having sexual intercourse.
