Arrest and Service of Search Warrants On 09/25/07, West County Patrol Units responded to a call of a man carrying a rifle in the area of 3400 Nyeland.  When deputies arrived, they found two persons sitting in the back of a parked car.  An investigation discovered that one of the subjects, Esteban Calderon, a Colonia Chiques gang member, was in possession of a loaded rifle with a high capacity magazine.

NEWBURY PARK RAPE: Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a rape in the Newbury Park unincorporated area on September 27 at 5:30 p.m.  The victim, a 16-year-old female, reported she was walking on the sidewalk on Wendy Drive when a male suspect forced her under a bridge to a drainage area between Michael Drive and Gerald Drive.  The suspect then sexually assaulted the victim.  Sexual Assault Unit detectives are continuing with the investigation.  

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against the person(s) responsible for this crime.  The caller may remain anonymous and the call is not recorded.  Call Crime Stoppers at (805) 494-TALK (Thousand Oaks/ Moorpark/Simi Valley) or  (805) 385-TALK (Oxnard, Camarillo, Ventura, Port Hueneme).

Nigerian Fraud Schemes Facilitated by Americans: Christine Gage thought she had gotten a decent job. The e-mail said her assignment would be to receive checks from customers, cash them, and wire the money to the company’s headquarters in Africa. It seemed simple enough, but it never quite happened that way.

FILLMORE DRUG BUST: At the conclusion of a one-month investigation of narcotics dealing, detectives from the VenturaCounty Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant in the City of Fillmore.

September 21, 2007 SCHOOL BOMB THREAT SUSPECT ARRESTED: On the morning of September 18, 2007, Newbury Park High School received a phoned-in bomb threat from a male caller.  Sheriff’s deputies from the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to the school and were advised that the school’s principal had evacuated students from their classrooms to a safe location.

Investigators Seek Public’s Help to Identify Robbery Suspect     UPDATED INFORMATION

Sheriff’s major crimes investigators are seeking the public’s help to identify a robbery suspect, who has targeted customers and employees during two recent mid-day robberies at local businesses.

September 18, 2007 OAKVIEW ASSAULT: On Tuesday, September 18th, at about 11:00 P.M., several Caucasian males reportedly went to a home in the 500 block of Santa Ana Blvd, in Oakview, and began vandalizing a vehicle parked in the driveway.  When the victim, a resident at the home, confronted the group, Robert Stevens attempted to hit him with a club-type weapon.

Camarillo Optimist Officer of Year: The Camarillo Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department are proud to announce Deputy Ray Dominguez has been chosen as the Camarillo Noontime Optimist Club Officer of the Year. Deputy Dominguez has worked with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department for 8 years and is currently assigned to work patrol in the City of Camarillo. He has received numerous commendations and is known as a hard worker with a positive outlook.

Precautionary Evacuations: Due to the direction and movement of the Day Fire, the Ventura Sheriff’s Department has issued a precautionary evacuation notice for residents in the area of Highway 33, from Rose Valley Road to Ozena (Lockwood Valley Road). Residents are advised to consider making preparations to move animals and livestock out of the area.

Internet Marijuana Bust: Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit concluded a several month investigation that resulted in the arrest of an Inglewood resident, identified as Eugene Church for selling marijuana over the Internet.


September 13, 2006 Graffiti Vandalism Arrest:On September 13, 2006 , at about 1:30 PM , Mr. Angel Leal was seen by a passerby as he was spraying painting graffiti in several locations. The witness telephoned the Sheriff’s Department and provided updated information about Leal’s location, description, and his continuing criminal activity until deputies were able to arrive and take Leal into custody.

September 13, 2006 Bomb Hoax: On September 13, 2006 , at about 8:00 AM , Thousand Oaks Patrol Deputies were called to Newbury Park High School after school officials discovered a voice mail message indicating there was a possible bomb on the campus. The message had been left over night.

Spanish Citizen's Academy: Captain Bruce Macedo and the Fillmore Police Department are pleased to announce the formation of a Community Public Safety Academy, often called a Citizen’s Academy in other communities, for Spanish speaking community members. The purpose of the academy is to reach out to a segment of our community that often feel left out because of language barriers. Like other academies, this program will familiarize members of the Spanish speaking community with the role of public safety in our society.
